Overview
This programme trains landscape-design specialists who understand natural elements and landscape-management technologies together with the art of spatial design, applying planning laws to adapt or transform landscapes according to society's needs while balancing human-made elements with nature. Coursework builds knowledge of sustainable development and social responsibility in relation to landscape-architecture trends, rational use of natural resources, and the history and theory of landscape architecture, developing the ability to design green spaces using the harmony laws of art across different scales of human habitat. Students learn to assess and shape landscapes, select plants suited to parks and gardens, integrate cultural and natural systems across a territory, apply land-use planning regulations, and produce design documentation for engineering objects within a landscape project. Teaching combines lectures, design studios, excursions and laboratory work with group tasks and case studies of real landscape problems, includes an optional subject in either arboriculture and recreational forestry or environmental sociology and psychology, and offers the chance to take individual courses abroad through an exchange programme.
