MA/MS in Classics and Ancient Civilizations: Classics

This programme aims to produce experts in the societies and literature of the Ancient Mediterranean world. Its Classics track provides grounding in the language and literature of Greek and Latin from Homer to Late Antiquity, covering linguistics, intertextuality, narratology and reception, and explores the methodologies and theoretical frameworks now in use within Classics and Ancient Studies. Students analyse primary sources in greater depth than at bachelor's level and learn to connect specialist knowledge of antiquity to texts and cultural phenomena from later periods. VU Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam jointly offer the programme through a shared research partnership, Amsterdam Centre for Ancient Studies and Archaeology.
