MA/MS in Arts & Culture: Design Cultures

This track approaches the study of design from a Humanities perspective, covering its history and theory and how it connects to present-day issues including inequality, overconsumption, ecology, mobility and identity. Rather than training students to design objects, it focuses on interpreting, reflecting on and writing about design, addressing questions such as what makes a design iconic, how design is used to construct national identity, how design can be approached from post-colonial, ecological and feminist perspectives, how designers think and work, and how the same object can mean different things to different users. It forms one of the tracks within the master's programme in Arts & Culture.
