Overview
This specialisation in international and macroeconomic policy covers trade, growth and the coordination of fiscal and monetary policy, building on advanced macroeconomic theory about the drivers of long-run growth and productivity and the role of fiscal and monetary tools in economic stabilisation. Coursework examines the coordination needed to sustain European integration, including the division of tasks between EU and national authorities and the stability and possible expansion of the euro area, as well as growth in developing countries, covering the effect of institutional factors on growth, how incentives shape household and firm saving and investment, and the impact of foreign aid on development. Students also study the drivers of growth in industrialised countries, including how firms pursue innovation and the role of policy in supporting it.
