Bachelor of Arts in Translation

Dhofar University's Bachelor of Arts in Translation spans four years and 120 credit hours, and trains students to translate between English and Arabic in both directions and to edit texts in either language. Its teaching approach treats intercultural and interdisciplinary knowledge as inseparable from learning a language and understanding its technical side, with the aim of leading students toward the practical craft of translation. Learning outcomes cover theory as well as practice. Students are expected to approach translation problems with an understanding of areas such as sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, pragmatics and semantics, and to carry out comparative analyses of language. The department's stated mission is to produce skilled translators and interpreters of written and spoken material for local, regional and national employers.
