Overview
The Diploma in Chemical Engineering began in 2005 within the Department of Chemical Engineering at Dhofar University. It trains technical staff who support operations in energy, chemical, environmental and process-based industries, and it draws students from Dhofar and from other regions.
Teaching rests on laboratories and practical sessions. Coursework spans basic process engineering, heat transfer, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics on top of foundational chemistry, physics and mathematics, and students gain experience with laboratory techniques, process operations and industry-relevant equipment. Industrial training also strengthens teamwork, communication and problem solving.
Graduates are prepared for technical posts in chemical and petrochemical plants, the oil and gas sector, water and environmental services and wider industrial operations, in tasks such as quality control, equipment maintenance and running plant processes. The route also remains open to further study in chemical engineering. The department regularly revisits how it designs courses, teaches and assesses, drawing on feedback from industry and other stakeholders.
