Overview
Dhofar University is a private university in Salalah, Oman.
It was set up by ministerial decree in January 2004, began teaching in September of that year, and describes itself as Oman's first private institution to follow an American-style model of higher education. Teaching is organised through four colleges: Arts and Applied Sciences, Commerce and Business Administration, Engineering, and Law.
The university lists 56 academic programmes, made up of diplomas, bachelor's degrees, master's degrees and a teaching diploma. School leavers whose placement-test results in English, mathematics or information technology show a gap can first take a one-year bridge course at the Centre for Preparatory Studies.
Postgraduate study is offered in both English and Arabic.
English-medium choices include cybersecurity, project management, business administration and TEFL. Arabic-medium choices cover educational leadership, counselling, social work, language studies, literature, management, accounting and law, including doctorates in private and public law.
Regular teaching runs in two sixteen-week semesters, and postgraduate courses are not held in the summer term. Postgraduate applications are submitted online through the university website, and every admission stays provisional until the national higher education ministry gives its final approval.
The university states that it is accredited by OAAA.
