Overview

HBKU's MA in Islam and Global Affairs is a highly customizable program exploring the place of Islam within global affairs and the challenges facing Muslim communities in an increasingly interconnected world. Students work through research and integrative lab assignments alongside local and international organizations, aiming to graduate as ethical, multidimensional leaders able to analyze how Islamic values promote peace and cooperation across cultures. Taught in English over two years for 36 credits, the program opens with foundation courses in Islam and Global Affairs, the Islamic Worldview and Research Methods, followed by core courses covering global inequalities, conflict transformation and faith-based development. Students then choose one specialization course between Islam and Global Governance and Humanitarian Action in the Muslim World. An Integrative Lab component gives students personalized project space and international exposure, and the degree concludes with a nine-credit thesis.
