This four-year honours degree in materials engineering gives in-depth knowledge of fundamental sciences and engineering and supports employment across many industries. Coursework covers the underlying sciences and mathematics, key properties and behaviour of materials, and, in later years, processing, characterisation and applications. The course includes hands-on laboratory work, a final-year project and a professional internship lasting 20 weeks.
In Year 4, students choose from seven specialisations; examples include medical materials, nanotechnology, clean energy and intellectual property. A SkillsFuture work-study option exists, and students who do very well in their first semester may join an accelerated route that finishes in seven semesters instead of eight. The programme is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Board.
Graduates find work in sectors such as electronics, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and biomedicine, logistics, public administration and defence, and research and development.
