BA/BS in Classics

The Bachelor's programme in Classical Philology focuses on consolidating knowledge of Greek and Latin, acquiring basic subject knowledge and learning academic working methods. Graduates should be able to work independently with original texts and to take part in scholarly debate. The field covers the entire written heritage of Greco-Roman antiquity, including its pagan and Christian aspects, and in Bern also includes Judaism. The course explores cultural, historical and intellectual aspects of antiquity as well as the transmission and reception history of texts. It maintains links to neighbouring humanities disciplines whose subjects grow out of the Greco-Roman tradition. Teaching is in German, the study runs six semesters, and admission is possible in autumn or spring semester.
