The chemistry program holds approval from the American Chemical Society and prepares students for graduate study, teaching, chemical engineering and positions in industrial and government laboratories.
Small classes and mentoring faculty shape the experience. Students carry out research using up-to-date equipment and present results at regional conferences and at Adelphi's yearly Research and Creative Works Conference, and many partner with institutions across the New York metropolitan area.
BA and BS plans of study are published, and a chemistry minor covers organic, physical, analytical, inorganic and biochemical topics. Biochemistry and chemistry majors may also pursue joint degrees in dentistry or engineering through early assurance. The degree is STEM-designated, so eligible international students can extend OPT to 36 months, and an accelerated option leads into teacher education.
