Future elementary teachers use this master's program to learn how children grow intellectually, socially and emotionally, and to deepen their knowledge of English language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. Methods courses show practical ways to teach each subject. Placement in schools is a core feature. Through partnerships with area districts, students observe classrooms and complete supervised student teaching, while coursework addresses fairness and justice in education. Evening classes and either full- or part-time enrollment let each student choose a pace. Teachers certified in a different field can also enroll, adding a second certificate and meeting the graduate requirement for professional certification in both areas. A middle school extension and an educational theatre option round out the offerings. Applicants need a bachelor's degree with a 3.0 minimum GPA, a graduate application with a $60 fee, a 500-word essay, two recommender surveys and official transcripts.
