Auburn grants a social work bachelor of arts, a degree with accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates start as generalist practitioners, can seek licensure, and may apply to advanced-standing master's programs in social work.
Entry into the program itself is required before taking the practice course SOWO 4060. Applicants first complete an introductory sociology class and two social work courses with a C or higher. The application includes a pair of references and a personal essay capped at four double-spaced pages.
Within the major, students need a C in each course and a 2.5 GPA overall for those courses. Early semesters mix sociology, biology, psychology and English composition with core requirements in fine arts, math and history.
