Graduate instruction here leads toward a master's in child life, a master of science in the broader family science field with an optional marriage and family therapy concentration, and a doctorate. Two graduate certificates are offered as well. This department blends knowledge from many fields to prepare students for research, teaching, human services, policy, and industry. It runs two early learning centers and a marriage and family therapy center that serve as training and research sites, and the therapy option holds specialized accreditation. Applicants are best prepared with prior study of social and behavioral science, including human development, family relations, psychology or sociology, and statistics. No language requirement applies to the master's or the doctorate. Applicants should decide early which of the degree options fits their goals, because the therapy concentration carries its own accreditation expectations.
