BA/BS in Classics and Classical Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics

Boston University's Ancient Greek & Latin bachelor's program concentrates on the languages and literatures that shaped Western civilization. Greek writers include Homer, Sophocles, Euripides, Plato and the historian Thucydides, and the program covers both ancient languages, while Latin authors range from Cicero and Caesar to Catullus, Vergil, Livy and Tacitus. Latin also matters in the modern world because the Romance languages, such as Italian, French and Spanish, descend from it, and so do many English words. The Classical Studies department is currently weighing changes to its BA degrees, so anyone interested should get in touch with the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Prof. Leah Kronenberg, before applying. Anyone accepted into this sequence ahead of July 1, 2026 may still complete under the rules that applied when they were accepted.
