MA/MS in Classical and Ancient Studies

This master's degree builds the linguistic and scholarly skills needed for advanced classical study. Students can focus on Greek or Latin, although most become proficient in both. It is aimed chiefly at future teachers of Latin or Greek at the secondary and college level. The department seeks applicants with ability, imagination and a wish to share their enthusiasm, and successful applicants usually bring several years of Greek or Latin. Eight courses are needed, including a prose composition class and seven others numbered 500 or higher. The degree sits within a graduate community where students work closely with faculty advisors on a plan of study that suits their goals. Prospective applicants should consult the program page and the relevant school admissions pages for current requirements, deadlines and tuition, since those details are not given on the program page.
