BA/BS in Accounting and Related Services

The accounting major prepares students for careers in accounting, auditing, finance and related business fields. The department's mission is to equip students for productive careers in private industry, the public sector and public practice. Students study accounting principles together with business and technology concepts, which opens varied career paths. Many use their coursework to prepare for professional credentials such as the CPA, CMA and CIA exams, with faculty advisors helping choose a designation. The major includes 41 hours of accounting, with courses such as intermediate accounting, cost accounting, auditing, federal taxes and accounting systems and control. Students need a 2.0 GPA in accounting courses beyond the introductory principles and at least nine upper-level accounting hours in residence. The department's Master of Science in Accounting supports those pursuing the 150 credit hours required for CPA licensure.
