MA/MS in Civil Engineering

The civil engineering master's degree (MSCE) sits in the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction and aims to let graduate students combine advanced technical and non-numerical knowledge where engineering, construction management and business meet. Three objectives shape the program. One centers on scholarship led by students, supported through thesis supervision, assistantships and ties with industry and with state and federal agencies. Another keeps business practice and construction management woven into graduate engineering study. The third is practice-based, giving students room to sharpen communication, pick up quantitative and qualitative methods, and consider globalization and sustainability. Outside class, graduate students can join chapters of ASCE, AGC and MCAA, hear visiting speakers, take part in community service projects, and present research at symposiums and conferences. Applicants should hold an undergraduate degree in civil engineering or construction, or in a closely related area. The GRE is not required. A GPA of 3.0 is generally expected, though applicants below that may still be considered on the strength of their preparation and experience.
