BA/BS in Civil Engineering

The civil engineering bachelor's degree (BSCE) is delivered by the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction and carries ABET accreditation through its engineering commission. The department's stated mission is to graduate engineers who understand the worldwide side of the profession, can lead, and have enough technical depth to follow several career paths, graduate study among them. Faculty set objectives for what alumni should be doing a few years after graduating. These include acting as leaders and stewards of the profession, applying ethics along with sustainable development principles, seeking licensure, learning throughout their careers, and mentoring others. Graduates are also expected to collaborate comfortably in interdisciplinary teams with culturally varied members. While enrolled, students work toward a published list of outcomes. The first of these is being able to recognize, frame and resolve complex engineering problems by drawing on engineering, science and mathematics.
