BA/BS in Chemistry

The chemistry BA is meant for students who want to study chemistry while keeping room to double major or to take extra electives in a different field. It is housed in the chemistry and biochemistry department. Every chemistry and biochemistry student completes a shared 30-hour common curriculum covering general and organic chemistry with labs, quantitative analysis, biochemistry, junior and senior seminars and an introductory biology course. On top of that, the Bachelor of Arts major adds calculus, physics and a physical chemistry course, followed by advanced chemistry options. Because the major leaves extra space for electives, it fits students who combine the sciences with a professional or liberal arts interest. Titles in the shared curriculum include general chemistry I and II, organic chemistry I and II, quantitative analysis and biochemistry, so every graduate builds the same scientific core.
