BA/BS in Chemistry

The Chemistry bachelor of science prepares students who plan to enter graduate work in chemistry, work in laboratories run by industry or government, or enter fields like technical sales, testing and handling of hazardous materials, the chemical literature, or patent work involving chemistry. The American Chemical Society has reviewed the curriculum, which satisfies its criteria for approved programs. The lower division requires 36 units, including general chemistry with labs and a problem-solving course, and the upper division adds chemistry electives at the 400 or 500 level chosen with an advisor's approval. Some major courses also count toward general education areas such as physical science and laboratory activity. The major comprises 79 units within a 120-unit degree. A second major or option inside the Chemistry and Biochemistry department cannot be declared.
