BA/BS in Computer Engineering

Computer engineering is a Bachelor of Science in the School of Engineering and Computing that joins electronic hardware with software systems. Students learn to design and analyze computer systems and to find ways of improving them. The core draws on chemistry, physics, economics, and several levels of calculus, then moves into digital logic, computer architecture, and programming. Laboratory-based courses give hands-on experience with equipment, and students complete upper-level engineering electives in communications and related topics. The department describes the program as preparation for solving complex engineering problems and for contributing to technology development. Students interested in the field should plan their mathematics and science sequence early. The program is delivered on the Christopher Newport University campus in Newport News, Virginia, where students work closely with faculty. The full course list is in the undergraduate catalog, and the department can answer questions.
