Intended as foundational coursework for anyone heading toward a civil engineering career, this certificate covers the basics of the discipline. Outcomes include using math, science, engineering, and technology on broadly framed problems, designing systems and processes to meet defined needs, and communicating through writing, speaking, and drawings. Students also learn to carry out routine tests and measurements and to make sense of what the data show. The published program map lays out one possible route through the required courses and is offered for reference only. Students are asked to meet with a counselor to build a personal education plan. Each course entry in the catalog lists its description, any prerequisites or advisories, and the general education or transfer areas it satisfies. Transfer plans deserve a counselor conversation too, because every university sets its own course requirements.
