AA/AS in Economics

Economics at Los Angeles Harbor College introduces students to the way individuals, firms and governments act in light of economic concepts, from household choices to national policy. Coursework covers micro and macroeconomic fundamentals and the methods used to analyze real cases. Students are expected to apply core theories, laws and models, to explain the reasoning behind economic decisions, and to bring enough mathematical competence to solve problems in the field. The department has a full-time faculty member with an office in the NEA building, and students can reach out there for guidance on planning their studies. The subject also builds quantitative habits that carry over into business, public policy and other social science fields.
