AA/AS in Criminal Justice and Corrections

Northwest Vista College's criminal justice pre-major gives students a basic grounding in the field. They learn how criminal law developed historically and philosophically, and they study its substantive and procedural parts. Topics include how state and federal courts are organized and what they do, along with correctional and police systems. The coursework follows a field of study curriculum that Texas's higher education coordinating agency has approved. Students develop skills in problem solving, research and communication. Possible employers include government bodies, military and defense agencies, security firms, retailers, universities, law offices, banks, hospitals and airports. Class sizes stay small, which supports close interaction with faculty who have worked in corrections, probation, policing and the courts. Prospective students can use the program page to find contacts and next steps, and they should speak with an advisor to confirm how courses fit their degree plan and transfer goals.
