AA/AS in Social Work

The Social Work Transfer Pathway leads to an Associate of Arts and is designed for students who plan to finish a bachelor's degree in social work elsewhere. Teacher Education and Human Services is the home department, and the plan requires 60 to 64 credit hours. Social workers look at how a person's surroundings shape physical, mental and emotional health. They assess needs, design interventions, connect people with resources and speak up for broader change. Graduates might eventually serve families in crisis, adults with developmental disabilities, older residents or people returning to the community after incarceration. The pathway encourages empathy, clear communication and critical thinking, three habits that fit the profession. Students take their early coursework in small classes, where instructors can offer close mentoring and prompt feedback, then move on to a four-year institution to continue toward professional practice.
