Overview

Biology majors work toward a bachelor of science degree. It gives students a grounding in the central ideas of modern biology along with practical skills for applying them, and a strong preparation for later study. The major prepares graduates for graduate, medical, or professional study as well as for work in the classroom, the lab, or industry. Most courses include laboratory or field components, and students are encouraged to join faculty research projects and can earn course credit for research. Minors are available in biology and in related areas including biotechnology, biomedical engineering, and environmental studies, as well as public health. The department also teaches the introductory sequence for all life science majors, and study abroad options in the life sciences are available through the university.
