This two-year MFA in Studio Art, housed at SMFA at Tufts, is a studio-based program centered on advanced interdisciplinary practice. Students shape a personalized studio curriculum with faculty and staff, drawing on resources across the university. Students work closely with faculty to develop their practice, and seminars pair individual mentoring with one-on-one and group critique that supports growth in research and art-making.
Students also complete a graduate art history course and non-studio electives linked to their thesis and studio work. A Museum Studies concentration is optional for admitted students, and its courses can satisfy non-studio requirements.
The program concludes with a thesis and exhibition, supported by review boards, critiques, and professional development opportunities. Students graduate with a body of work built over two years of sustained studio practice.
