BA/BS in Sociology

Sociology studies how societies are organized, how inequality develops, and how people behave within groups. The sociology bachelor's program begins with required courses that teach students to interpret information and observations with care. This method-focused start prepares students for the elective work that follows. Students then choose from several areas of concentration, which can include deviant behavior, family life, social stratification, gender and sexuality, aging, urban life, and the links between social conditions and health. Relevant courses from related departments can count toward the major when the undergraduate advisor approves them. Transfer students must complete a required amount of sociology coursework on campus. Students interested in research can pursue further study in methods and theory across the concentration areas.
