BA/BS in Theological and Ministerial Studies

Xavier's Bachelor of Arts in Theology invites students to study how people across the world have experienced the divine and expressed that experience through customs, teachings and ceremonies. The major aims to help students understand faith traditions in depth, engage respectfully with a variety of religious viewpoints and bring theological reflection to current questions facing society. Reading and discussion are meant to move beyond history toward present-day relevance. Learning also happens outside the classroom. Students also join service-learning efforts and volunteering, which let them turn belief into action and contribute to the neighborhoods around them. The combination of academic study and community involvement suits students who see faith as something lived as well as studied. Graduates leave with experience interpreting complex ideas, listening across differences and connecting thought with practice, which is useful for ministry, teaching, service organizations or further graduate study in religion and related areas of the humanities.
