MA/MS in Student Counseling and Personnel Services

Future counselors can prepare for several settings through this master's degree in education with a counseling focus. Available options include clinical work in mental health, school counseling, college counseling combined with student affairs, and addiction counseling. Graduates are trained for jobs at schools, colleges, recovery centers, and mental health centers. A shared set of core courses covers knowledge and skills considered essential for counselors in every environment. The program also runs the Community Counseling Clinic, which offers free or low-cost services to people living around Youngstown. Every student on the clinical, school, addiction, or college track completes a practicum and counsel clients at the clinic. The program points to the range of its classes, field placements, students, and faculty, and to the reputation its alumni hold locally, as evidence of the quality of preparation.
