Overview
Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf is a private, French-language educational institution in the Côte-des-Neiges district of Montreal, at the foot of Mont Royal near the Université de Montréal.
Founded in 1928 by the Society of Jesus, it grew out of the Jesuits' older Collège Sainte-Marie and carries forward the Jesuit tradition of educating the whole person, combining rigorous academics with the arts, sports and community engagement. The institution operates on two levels: a secondary school for boys and girls, and a fully pre-university collegial division equivalent to a CEGEP, which awards the Diplôme d'études collégiales (DEC) and prepares students exclusively for university admission rather than the labour market.
In 1982 Brébeuf became the first collegial institution in Quebec affiliated with the International Baccalaureate Organization, and it remains an IB World School today. Its collegial programs span Sciences humaines, Sciences de la nature, Sciences, lettres et arts, and Arts, lettres et communication, each offered in a standard two-year DEC stream and, for Sciences humaines and Sciences de la nature, in a parallel dual-diploma IB stream.
Students wishing to pair advanced music training with a full pre-university curriculum can enrol in a three-year Double DEC delivered jointly with the École de musique Vincent-d'Indy.
Instruction throughout is in French, with sustained English-language coursework in the IB streaMs.
