Overview

Training to teach secondary biology over a single year, trainees learn to help pupils grasp how living things work, from single cells and habitats to the human body and inheritance. Lessons also encourage pupils to think about where they fit into the environment and how they affect it. Learning takes place in facilities made to resemble schools, guided by staff who have taught in classrooms themselves. Placements supply a variety of practical experience, and trainees additionally develop the skills to cover chemistry and physics lessons. Successful trainees receive Qualified Teacher Status, the recognised qualification for teaching, which is issued by the national teaching regulator and allows them to take up classroom posts. Study is full-time and based at the Falmer campus.
