BA/BS in Social Work

Algoma University's Bachelor of Social Work is available at the Sault Ste. Marie, Brampton, and Timmins campuses and is grounded in anti-racist, anti-colonial, Indigenous, structural, critical feminist, and anti-oppressive approaches to practice. Coursework addresses work with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities, with particular attention to northern, rural, remote, Indigenous, and Franco-Ontarian populations, and covers topics such as crisis intervention and the impacts of the residential school system. Teaching methods include learning circles, case studies, simulated practice scenarios, and community engagement alongside standard coursework. All students complete a 700-hour field practicum, though those with relevant college credentials or work experience may qualify for reduced hours. The program suits students committed to supporting diverse and marginalized populations across the province. Graduates work in settings such as public agencies, hospitals, clinics, schools, correctional and police services, and private practice.
