The Business of Esports Certificate is a one-year, two-semester certificate at Algoma University, described as the first university in Ontario to offer esports programming. Delivered through distance education, the program introduces the commercial side of the esports industry through ten courses (30 credits) covering marketing strategy, event planning, sponsorship and brand activation, production and content creation, and esports law, alongside a general introduction to esports and the fundamentals of esports management. Students take part in academic esports events and tournaments as part of their experiential learning, and courses are taught by industry experts with professional experience in the field. Credits earned in the certificate can be transferred toward Algoma's bachelor's degree programs.
