Program details

Overview

This CEAB-accredited degree prepares graduates for work in automation and robotics by combining mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science into a single course of study. As a pathway for holders of an Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technician diploma, prior coursework is credited toward the degree, shortening the remaining study to a little over three years. The program responds to the growing use of autonomous and remotely operated systems in manufacturing, healthcare and other fields, where such systems can reduce risk to workers and raise efficiency. Students build knowledge in engineering principles, mathematics, technical writing, programming, physics, electronics, machine design, control systems, actuators, sensors and vision systems, along with software used to design and simulate autonomous equipment, plus project planning and research skills. Placements in industry or applied research and a substantial final-year project let students test this knowledge against real problems. Graduates find roles in sectors such as industrial automation, mining, manufacturing, aerospace and defence.

Requirements

Minimum GPA: 70.00 / %
Admission Requirements: This is a bridging program open only to graduates of Algonquin's Electromechanical Engineering Technician Ontario College Diploma, admitted with an overall diploma GPA of 2.7 (70%); eligible graduates can receive credit for up to 12 courses, shortening completion to three years and four months. Applications go through ontariocolleges.ca with official transcripts showing the completed diploma and GPA; those received by February 1 get equal consideration, after which offers are made first-come, first-served. The program's own admissions page does not publish a separate English-proficiency scale for this pathway or list further conditions beyond the diploma and GPA threshold; international applicants are directed to a separate application portal.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for September 2027 entry the application portal opens 26 September 2026, the equal consideration date is 1 February 2027, and offers must be accepted by 1 May 2027, while later applications are still assessed as space allows; Algonquin publishes no separate equal-consideration date for the January 2027 intake. International applicants apply directly via Algonquin's own International Application Portal, not ontariocolleges.ca; instead of one fixed date the college posts a program-by-program closing-date list shortly before each term starts - for Fall 2026 most programs closed 16 September 2026, technology programs by 9-10 September; no Winter 2027 or Fall 2027 international list has been posted yet, so admission remains effectively rolling until each list is published and fills. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
