Overview

The Mineral Processing Operator program is a pre-employment certificate that qualifies candidates for entry-level positions in mineral processing. It combines a 12-week classroom and shop phase at Aurora College with 504 hours of on-site training at a diamond mine. Coursework covers mineral processing equipment, foundations, operations, and safety, along with dedicated site training and an orientation for the industrial workplace, giving candidates both technical grounding and direct exposure to mine-site conditions before they begin work. Graduates receive an Aurora College Certificate of Achievement. Admission requires a minimum of Grade 9 mathematics and English along with successful completion of the Test of Workplace Essential Skills (TOWES-G1), a clean criminal record (assessed case-by-case where one exists), a minimum age of 18 before the program starts, and favourable references from at least two recent supervisors.
