Program details
Overview
Environmental Studies and Geography at Bishop's University is a one-year undergraduate Certificate offered by the Department of Environment, Agriculture and Geography in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The program examines how and why the environment is changing, through courses covering both the social and physical dimensions of environmental change, and is housed within a department whose faculty also teach Bishop's degree programs in geography, sustainable agriculture, and environmental studies. It offers a shorter, focused alternative to a full degree for students seeking foundational knowledge in environmental studies and geography before pursuing further study or entering the workforce. The certificate admits students each Fall and Winter term and follows the same general admission process as Bishop's degree programs, and is open to applicants from high school, CEGEP, another university, or outside Canada.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission is assessed by applicant category. CEGEP students who have completed or are completing a DEC may apply regardless of the DEC's field of study, with no specific prerequisite courses required; the estimated minimum admission average is a 24 global R-Score (25 R-Score for School of Education programs). Canadian high school applicants from outside Quebec must complete five Grade 12 level university-preparatory courses, including Grade 12 level English, three Approved courses, and one further Approved or Option course; required and approved courses vary by province. International, IB, transfer, mature-student, and other applicant categories have their own published requirements. All applicants must submit a recent transcript, and CEGEP applicants must also provide their Quebec permanent code. Meeting the posted minimum does not guarantee admission, as applications are evaluated competitively when demand exceeds available spaces.
