Overview

Finance at Bishop's University is a concentration within the Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.), offered by the Williams School of Business and available as a Major, Minor, or Honours option. The curriculum provides broad exposure to the dimensions of finance, including corporate finance, portfolio management, securities research, investment management, capital budgeting, capital formation, and risk hedging, combining theoretical grounding with practical application. It forms part of the wider B.B.A. curriculum, combining core business fundamentals with finance-specific coursework. The program admits students each Fall and Winter term and is open to applicants from high school, CEGEP, another university, or outside Canada. Business program applicants must have completed Grade 12 level math, or take an additional math course during the degree if this prerequisite was not met. Graduates are prepared for careers in corporate finance, portfolio and asset management, securities research, banking, and related financial roles.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission is assessed by applicant category. CEGEP students who have completed or are completing a DEC may apply regardless of the DEC's field of study, with no specific prerequisite courses required; the estimated minimum admission average is a 24 global R-Score (25 R-Score for School of Education programs). Canadian high school applicants from outside Quebec must complete five Grade 12 level university-preparatory courses, including Grade 12 level English, three Approved courses, and one further Approved or Option course; required and approved courses vary by province. International, IB, transfer, mature-student, and other applicant categories have their own published requirements. All applicants must submit a recent transcript, and CEGEP applicants must also provide their Quebec permanent code. Meeting the posted minimum does not guarantee admission, as applications are evaluated competitively when demand exceeds available spaces. Business program (B.B.A.) applicants must also have completed Math 2200/2201 or equivalent; students who have not completed a higher-level Grade 12 math course (3200, 3201, or 3208) are required to take an additional math course as part of their B.B.A. degree requirements.
