Program details
Overview
Geography & Climate Change at Bishop's University is a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Major offered by the Department of Environment, Agriculture and Geography in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The program examines human, physical, and environmental geography, with an emphasis on human-environment interactions and climate-related processes, and combines classroom instruction with hands-on fieldwork in a region offering considerable physical diversity. Students can choose coursework weighted toward the human or physical side of geography according to their interests, and may pursue an honours thesis in collaboration with faculty who have expertise in geography, sustainable agriculture, and environmental studies. The program admits students each Fall and Winter term and is open to applicants from high school, CEGEP, another university, or outside Canada. Graduates are prepared for careers such as climate change analyst, environmental consultant, urban/regional planner, remote sensing specialist, meteorologist, sustainability development manager, and government policy analyst, among other geography- and environment-related roles.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission is assessed by applicant category. CEGEP students who have completed or are completing a DEC may apply regardless of the DEC's field of study, with no specific prerequisite courses required; the estimated minimum admission average is a 24 global R-Score (25 R-Score for School of Education programs). Canadian high school applicants from outside Quebec must complete five Grade 12 level university-preparatory courses, including Grade 12 level English, three Approved courses, and one further Approved or Option course; required and approved courses vary by province. International, IB, transfer, mature-student, and other applicant categories have their own published requirements. All applicants must submit a recent transcript, and CEGEP applicants must also provide their Quebec permanent code. Meeting the posted minimum does not guarantee admission, as applications are evaluated competitively when demand exceeds available spaces.
