Overview
The Computer Systems Certificate (CSC) in Flexible Learning provides foundational skills in software development, mathematics, computer systems, and computer science. Participants are introduced to solving problems by starting with Python, moving to Java, and C programming, along with other entry-level computing and IT skills. You'll work in teams to create databases, and gain hands-on experience with software application development, plus build websites with HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. There is a foundation of mathematics and computer architecture, as well as business analysis and systems design, along with soft skills for the workplace, including business and technical reports, interpersonal communication, group work and presentations. After completing the program, you can continue onto the diploma program or find employment.

Admission Requirements: This is a BCIT Flexible Learning (Part-time Studies) certificate. The stated entrance requirement is English language proficiency at BCIT's Category 2 level: English Studies 12 at 67%, or an equivalent from BCIT's institution-wide English Language Proficiency table, which for Category 2 also accepts IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 86 with no section below 20, or PTE Academic 60 with no skill below 60. The program page also notes that students need English and Math skills equivalent to BC high-school Grade 12, recommends upgrading with MATH 0001 before starting without recent higher-math study, and requires completion of two required COMM courses early in the program because later COMP courses involve team writing and presentations. International applicants may enrol with valid Canadian status; a BCIT study permit is required before the program starts, and the program currently meets the eligible field of study requirement for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (CIP code 15.1202), subject to IRCC's other PGWP conditions.
