Overview
The Railway Conductor and Operations Associate Certificate is designed for students seeking a career in the railway industry. The Associate Certificate program focuses on practical skills required for employment within many industrial, short line, with qualifications required to work in a class 1 railway. At the Annacis Island campus, you will gain hands-on experience in our dedicated rail yard to expand their understanding of freight/passenger equipment handling, switching cars, making or splitting up trains, or moving cars, sidings, or tracks according to instructions originating with yard, train planners, radio procedures and railway safety. You will achieve full Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) that governs federally regulated railway operations in Canada.

Admission Requirements: This program is not available to international students. Domestic applicants need English Studies 12 at 50%, English First Peoples 12 at 50%, 3.0 credits of post-secondary English, humanities or social science coursework at 50%, or another approved BC or Yukon equivalent — BCIT's Category 3 English requirement, also met by IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.0, TOEFL iBT 4 with no section below 3, PTE Academic 52, Duolingo 105, or CAEL 60. No other prerequisite course is listed. Applicants must declare their program intent through the Education Planner BC system, which takes about eight weeks to process, and are accepted on a first-qualified basis as long as space remains. Intakes run in January and September each year, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis throughout the year.

Openings are 9:00 am and deadlines 11:59 pm Pacific Time, moving to the next business day on a weekend. Admission is not institute-wide rolling, but many programs work first-qualified-first-accepted and can fill before the posted deadline, and several programs, mostly in Health Sciences, trades and graduate studies, run entirely separate application tables of their own. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
