Overview
The Aircraft Defect Inspection and Reporting Techniques micro-credential will allow aviation employees to upskill to perform inspector related activity in their current role with the goal of upgrading to the inspector level within their organization. Working with key industry players the goal is to utilize the current hands-on skills of the inspectors and give them skills to properly document performed inspections using industry related reporting tools. Software use and image capture methods have changed drastically since most of these inspectors completed their training and by giving them tools to expand their current industry skills into emerging processes will ensure their viability while helping to advance the current workforce.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: BCIT does not run a formal admissions process for this micro-credential; there is no application, and no minimum grades, GPA or English/French language test scores are published. The program page instead describes an intended audience of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering graduates, industry employees and aircraft owners who want to build on their inspection knowledge. Of the two required courses, AVFL 1000 carries no prerequisite, while the second, AVFL 1005, requires a satisfactory (S) grade in AVFL 1000. The program is restricted to domestic students; BCIT states it is not available to international students. Once both courses are complete, applicants email the program contact with their name, student number and mailing address to receive the microcredential; no portfolio, interview or work-experience document is requested.

Application Deadline:BCIT publishes common credential application dates for most cohort-based diplomas, degrees and Flexible Learning routes, though each program's own page governs: for the January 2027 intake domestic applications run 1 February 2026 to 2 January 2027 and international to 1 November 2026; for the April 2027 intake domestic runs 1 May 2026 to 1 April 2027 and international to 1 February 2027; for September 2027 domestic applications open 1 October 2026 and close 1 September 2027, international 2 July 2027. Openings are 9:00 am and deadlines 11:59 pm Pacific Time, moving to the next business day on a weekend. Admission is not institute-wide rolling, but many programs work first-qualified-first-accepted and can fill before the posted deadline, and several programs, mostly in Health Sciences, trades and graduate studies, run entirely separate application tables of their own. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
