Overview
The Building Energy Modelling and Simulation micro-credential aims to prepare you to become professional “energy modellers” who are competent in performing whole building energy simulations, and applying them to different stages of building design, operations and renovations. Designed for working professionals interested in building energy modelling, the new micro-credential is intended for learners with prior education and/or relevant work experience, as well as those who have an analytical mindset and are detail-oriented. This micro-credential will help prepare you for a career as Building Energy Performance Consultant and Energy Modelling Expert.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The first required course of this micro-credential, XBEM 3050, asks for a diploma or degree in science, technology or engineering, or equivalent, or department approval, with foundational knowledge of heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid dynamics recommended. XBEM 3052 requires 50% in XBEM 3050 or department approval of equivalent experience, and XBEM 3054 requires 50% in XBEM 3052 or department approval of equivalent experience. BCIT more broadly targets learners with prior education or relevant work experience and an analytical, detail-oriented mindset. No minimum GPA or English/French language test score is published. There is no formal admission application; students register for each course individually and email the program contact with their name, student number and mailing address on completing all three to receive the credential.

Application Deadline:BCIT publishes common credential application dates for most cohort-based diplomas, degrees and Flexible Learning routes, though each program's own page governs: for the January 2027 intake domestic applications run 1 February 2026 to 2 January 2027 and international to 1 November 2026; for the April 2027 intake domestic runs 1 May 2026 to 1 April 2027 and international to 1 February 2027; for September 2027 domestic applications open 1 October 2026 and close 1 September 2027, international 2 July 2027. Openings are 9:00 am and deadlines 11:59 pm Pacific Time, moving to the next business day on a weekend. Admission is not institute-wide rolling, but many programs work first-qualified-first-accepted and can fill before the posted deadline, and several programs, mostly in Health Sciences, trades and graduate studies, run entirely separate application tables of their own. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
