This micro-credential prepares students with the knowledge and skills required to work safely with asbestos, aligning with British Columbia's asbestos regulatory framework introduced under Bill 5-2022 and with WorkSafeBC's Level 1 and Level 2 certification standards. The program is a three-credit sequence of three courses, delivered through a blend of online and on-campus components, with continuous intake and a 60-day window to complete the requirements once started. Coursework addresses safe handling, transportation, and disposal of asbestos-containing materials and related waste management practices. Completing the first course qualifies a student to sit the WorkSafeBC Level 1 Certification Exam, while completing the full sequence together with a practical assessment qualifies them for the WorkSafeBC Level 2 Certification Exam. The micro-credential targets workers involved in asbestos abatement, transportation, and disposal who need recognized safety certification to work in the field, and its credits also count toward BCIT's Advanced Safety Management Certificate program for those pursuing further study in occupational safety.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: This micro-credential is delivered as three sequential Occupational Health and Safety courses rather than through a formal admissions process; BCIT states no formal application is required, and applicants instead register directly for the courses. The first course, OCHS 1015, carries no academic prerequisites. Progression requires a satisfactory (S) grade in OCHS 1015 before OCHS 1025, and a satisfactory grade in both OCHS 1015 and OCHS 1025 before the practical assessment, OCHS 1035. The courses run on continuous intake, with 60 days allowed to complete each course's requirements once registered. BCIT does not publish an English or French language-proficiency score, an age restriction, or any portfolio, interview or work-experience condition for this micro-credential. On completing all three courses, students email the program with their name, student number and mailing address to receive the credential.

Openings are 9:00 am and deadlines 11:59 pm Pacific Time, moving to the next business day on a weekend. Admission is not institute-wide rolling, but many programs work first-qualified-first-accepted and can fill before the posted deadline, and several programs, mostly in Health Sciences, trades and graduate studies, run entirely separate application tables of their own. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
