Overview
The Advanced Gas Turbine BCIT/Industry Partnership Certificate is an eight-week, full-time program delivered by BCIT's School of Transportation at the Aerospace Technology Campus, in partnership with MTU Maintenance Canada. It provides applied training in advanced gas turbine engine overhaul for graduates of the BCIT Aircraft Gas Turbine Technician Certificate or an equivalent recognized Canadian program. Delivered on campus at the industry partner's worksite in an accelerated eight-hour-per-day format that mirrors typical industry work schedules, the program awards 19.5 credits across seven required courses covering safe equipment operation, engine familiarization, disassembly and assembly techniques, OEM inspection, precision measuring, and borescope inspection. Admission follows a three-step process: a pre-entry assessment, English and math entrance requirements (or BCIT's Trades Entry Assessments), and a post-secondary gas turbine technician credential, followed by conditional acceptance pending Canadian citizenship or permanent residency, a criminal record check, and an industry eligibility assessment. The program is not open to international students. Graduates are prepared to overhaul gas turbine engines in the aviation maintenance sector.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: This program has a three-step admission process. Step 1: complete a pre-entry assessment form assessing education, experience, and interest, submitted to the program area. Step 2: meet English language proficiency at BCIT Category 3 (English Studies 12 at 50% or equivalent) or the BCIT English Trades Entry Assessment; Math at Pre-Calculus 11, Foundations of Math 11, or Workplace Math 11 (60%) or an acceptable equivalent, or the BCIT Math Trades Entry Assessment; and post-secondary education consisting of the BCIT Certificate in Aircraft Gas Turbine Technician or another recognized Canadian gas turbine technician certificate. Graduates of the BCIT Aircraft Gas Turbine Technician Certificate are exempt from the pre-entry assessment and the English, math, and industry partner requirements. Step 3: conditionally accepted applicants must provide proof of Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status, a Criminal Record Check, and successful completion of a controlled goods eligibility assessment by the industry partner. This program is not available to international students.
