Program details

Overview

This micro-credential is designed for people with no prior experience in data modeling, building practical Excel and Power BI skills needed to create dynamic, interactive dashboards from raw business data for reporting, analysis and decision-making.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: BCIT requires completion of COMP 1002, or equivalent knowledge of PC file management, as the entry prerequisite for this microcredential; no formal application is otherwise required. The page recommends, for success rather than as a mandatory condition, English proficiency and math skills at the Grade 12 level or equivalent, plus prior post-secondary education or work experience in business, computing, education, government, or health-related fields. Applicants need strong Windows 11 computer skills, their own current-model computer with a camera and microphone able to run Windows 11, high-speed internet access, and the capacity to devote 10 or more hours a week to coursework outside class. Each course is passed at a minimum of 60%, over two terms across BCIT's ongoing January, April and September intakes. In-person delivery is open to international students holding a valid BCIT study permit; the online delivery is open only to international applicants studying from outside Canada or holding valid Canadian status other than a study permit.

Application Details

Start Date: January, April and September
Application Deadline: BCIT publishes common credential application dates for most cohort-based diplomas, degrees and Flexible Learning routes, though each program's own page governs: for the January 2027 intake domestic applications run 1 February 2026 to 2 January 2027 and international to 1 November 2026; for the April 2027 intake domestic runs 1 May 2026 to 1 April 2027 and international to 1 February 2027; for September 2027 domestic applications open 1 October 2026 and close 1 September 2027, international 2 July 2027. Openings are 9:00 am and deadlines 11:59 pm Pacific Time, moving to the next business day on a weekend. Admission is not institute-wide rolling, but many programs work first-qualified-first-accepted and can fill before the posted deadline, and several programs, mostly in Health Sciences, trades and graduate studies, run entirely separate application tables of their own. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
