Biological Sciences is a Bachelor of Science offered by Brock University's Faculty of Mathematics and Science, covering the breadth of biology from protists, plants and animals to microbiology and ecology. The first two years survey the discipline through lectures, labs and field studies, while years three and four allow specialization in areas such as biochemistry, microbiology, cell and molecular biology, genetics, entomology, physiology, neurobiology, virology, ecology, animal behaviour and bioinformatics. Students are encouraged to take part in research through project-based courses and research assistant roles, and those maintaining an A average may pursue an eight-month honours thesis conducting original research under faculty supervision, sometimes resulting in co-authored publications. Extracurricular opportunities include joining a research lab, leading outreach workshops, and participating in the Lab Links and Lab-in-a-Box initiatives. Career paths include veterinary and human medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, field ecology, technical writing, education and research science.
