Brock University's Concurrent Teacher Education – Primary/Junior program is a five-year concurrent-degree pathway combining an Honours Bachelor of Arts with a Bachelor of Education, preparing graduates to teach kindergarten through grade six. Students choose between an Honours BA in Child and Youth Studies, which focuses on understanding children, childhood and youth and includes a required service-learning placement beginning in second year, or an Honours BA in Educational Studies, which examines education's ties to society across a variety of settings through collaborative projects and community partnerships. Students intending to teach at the primary/junior level are not required to select a teachable subject. Field and experiential-education opportunities begin in second year and continue throughout the program. Graduates of either route are recommended to the Ontario College of Teachers for an Ontario Certificate of Qualification and Registration.
