Program details

Overview

Brock University's Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Arts, offered through the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts in the Faculty of Humanities, combines coursework with theatre-making in professional-standard facilities. The program mounts an annual season of productions directed and produced by students, faculty, guest artists and staff, and includes work-integrated learning in creative and production roles, mentorships with theatre professionals, internships, co-op placements with regional theatres, and research assistantships with faculty and visiting artist-scholars. Students choose from four areas of concentration: Performance, focused on stage acting and creation; Design and Production, covering technical theatre and stagecraft; Theatre Creation, centred on writing, directing and devising; and Musical Theatre and Education, focused on singing, movement and musical theatre creation for future artists and educators. A Minor in Dramatic Arts and a Minor in Musical Theatre are also offered. A new international double-degree pathway with the University of Portsmouth, UK, combining Musical Theatre and Education with a year of study abroad, is pending final quality-assurance approval.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Ontario Secondary School applicants apply through OUAC code BT and require English (ENG4U); all applicants must attend the DART Invitational, an on-site workshop and admissions event, with Musical Theatre and Education applicants also completing a vocal audition. Applicants outside the Ontario secondary system are directed to Brock's separate admissions-criteria page for province- or country-specific equivalencies.
